Dashavatharam
After the kinda hype this movie generated before its release, I, like many, was very eager to watch it at the earliest.
I was pissed-off at the initial bad reviews in the newspaper. "How can Kamal in 10 different roles go wrong?", "You must be nuts to call it as just an 'average' movie" - These were my thoughts. Finally, got a chance to catch the flick myself. Here is what I thought about it...
The movie starts off with Kamal in the Brahmin priest character. I never imagined a noble priest bashing up so many gundas! It was strange to see someone sing at such a high pitch tune when getting beaten up so badly!. But wait, I am watching Ravikumar's movie, time to mute the 'logical' side!...
Next, the movie takes us to the main hero (scientist) in the US. Nothing great about this role to talk about...so, lets move on! The acting and comic skills of Kamal was brought out by the Balram Naidu character (Telugu guy). Kamal has pulled it off nicely. The villian, Fletcher (Kamal) reminded me of Arnold in Terminator2. I liked the make-up, but, after seeing the Kalif Ullah character (Kamal), I was baffled...those two looked like identical twins :( I think the make-up man ran out of ideas!
The movie in the middle looked very flaky. It was clear that the director was confused on whether to make an action film or a comedy one. He has successfully ended up making 'none'.
The make-up and mannerisms of the old lady character (Kamal) was noticeable and should be appreciated. The natural dumbness of the George bush's character doesn't disappoint either. The japanese guy's make-up looked realistic, but, unfortunately he had no real role to play :(
Apart from a few, the remaining Kamals just come and go. Fill in the gap types...
The Avatar singh (Kamal) character, a punjabi pop singer who talks tamil with an accent, sings a poetic song in tamil!...good job, director! :)
To please Kamal fans, who pronounce him as 'World Hero', our 'masala' director had added a special scene...
Bad guy: You want to save all the people in this world...you think you are a World Hero?
Kamal: Yes, I am. [and then a long pause - Kamal fans are supposed to clap loud and whistle here!]
The movie ends with nothing remarkable. In fact, I didn't even care how it ends, I just prayed it does!
Now to postives and negatives...
+ Make-up
+ Kamal's effort and workmanship
- Screenplay
- Graphics
- Creativity
- Direction
- Most scenes! :)
Letz call the movie as '-'avatharam!
It is a must-watch for hardcore Kamal fans. For the rest of us, its just a waste of time! I give it 2 out of 5.
